Huskies Turn Back Seahawks in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Five Northeastern players scored in double figures as the Huskies handed UNCW a 92-51 defeat in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball action at the Cabot Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies evened their overall record at 7-7 along with a 2-1 conference mark. The Seahawks dipped to 3-11 overall and are 0-3 in the circuit.

Graduate guard Carrie Gross (18 points) provided her ninth game with 10 or more points this season for UNCW, who shot 28.6 percent (16-of-56).

Led by graduate guard JaMiya Braxton's 16 points, the Huskies, who hit at a 59.1 percent (39-of-66) clip, reached their highest point total this season. Junior guard/forward Halle Idowu added 12 points. Junior guard Derin Erdogan and freshman forward Oralye Kiefer each chipped in 11 and senior guard Jaelyn Batts delivered 10 markers.

Northeastern raced out to a 29-10 lead after the first period. The Huskies converted 12-of-18 shots from the field in the opening period and closed the first half in front 50-24.

Braxton's fourth three-pointer of the game provided Northeastern a game-high 77-35 edge at the 9:14 mark in the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks return home next Friday, Jan. 13, for a 7 p.m. contest vs. Hofstra.

GAME NOTES: Northeastern has won five straight against the Seahawks … Lexi Jackson (2) has now blocked a shot in eight of her last nine games … Jackson has eight games with two or more blocks this season ... 12 players scored for the Huskies … UNCW allowed over 90 points for the first time this season … The Seahawks were outrebounded for only the fifth time this season … UNCW made 18 free throws, the third-highest mark in 2022-23 … The Seahawks shot under 30 percent for the third time … Attendance was 192.
