Seahawks Upset UVa Doubles Tandem

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – UNCW's top doubles team pulled off an upset, but No. 1 Virginia went on to sweep the doubles point and cruised past UNCW, 7-0, in the men's tennis opener for both teams early Sunday.
 
The Cavaliers, defending NCAA champions, won 23 straight matches to close out last season and return five of their six major contributors from one year ago. Playing indoors at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar's Head Sports Club, Virginia claimed all six singles matches, surrendering one set at No 5 singles when UNCW's Davide Innocenti fell to U.Va.'s Bar Botzer, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.
 
UNCW's Beka Rasamatov and Reece Falck, playing for the first time together in a spring match, knocked off Botzer and Chris Rodesch, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles.
 
The Seahawks return to the North Carolina coast for their home opener on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, vs. Presbyterian. Match time is noon at the UNCW courts.
