Seahawks Shut Out Blue Hens In CAA Opener

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Kayla Burroughs scored her second goal of the season in the 71st minute as the Seahawks earned a 1-0 victory over Delaware in their Colonial Athletic Association opener at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.

The Seahawks, 5-3-1 (1-0 CAA), have won three of their last four games. The Blue Hens, 1-6-3 (0-1 CAA), dropped their fourth straight contest.

Burroughs' marker came off an assist by junior midfielder Madison Henry, who picked up her team-high 14th point on the play.

UNCW held Delaware shotless through the first half, which featured a 78-minute weather delay, on their way to their third shutout of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Blair Barefoot collected three saves in the second half.

The Seahawks return to action at home on Noon Sunday against unbeaten Drexel, who won their CAA opener, 3-2, at Charleston.
