Seahawks Secure 1-1 Draw At VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – UNCW midfielder Madison Henry scored her first goal of the season, but VCU's Sophie Brophy evened the score in the 82nd minute for a 1-1 decision in women's soccer action at Sports Backers Stadium on Thursday.

The Seahawks moved to 1-1-1 this season and turn to their home opener against Coastal Carolina on Sunday. The Rams now stand 0-1-2 this year and host UNC Greensboro this weekend.

The teams combined for 22 shots, including 14 in a scoreless first half.

Henry, who led the Seahawks with a season-high four shots, put UNCW ahead in the 47th minute when graduate midfielder Morgan Nanni slotted the ball through to Henry, who finished the attack for her fourth career goal.

Brophy provided the equalizer late in the game off a corner from VCU's Kanna Matsuhisa to earn the tie.

GAME NOTES: The teams met for the second straight year … Both squads had four saves … There were 18 fouls … The game featured 36 players … Makaya Parham was issued a yellow card in the 57th minute … Attendance was 337.
