Norton Captures 200th Win In Weekend Sweep

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW softball Head Coach Kristy Norton earned her 200th career win as the Seahawks downed St. Bonaventure, 8-0, to sweep the series on Sunday afternoon at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks (15-3) won their fifth straight game after plating six runs in the bottom of the fourth against the Bonnies (1-8).

Shortstop Mary Sobataka started the frame with a grounder to short but reached when the throw was off the mark.

With Sobataka on first, center fielder Camryn Dean reached on an infield single to third base but the throw to first sailed into right field as Dean advanced to second and Sobataka raced around to score.

A third error scored Dean which was followed by back-to-back singles by infielders Tayler Vitola and Anna Knox that loaded the bases for senior Janel Gamache.

Another run crossed the plate when Gamache worked a five-pitch walk. Left fielder Elizabeth Winstead followed with a single into left to tack on another, 6-0.

Knox scored on a wild pitch and Gamache came around on a sac fly off the bat of catcher Jentri Meadows to make it an 8-0 ballgame.

The game was scoreless through the bottom of the third when UNCW plated two runs on three singles by Knox, Winstead, and first baseman Logan Bjorson.

Right-hander Amberlyn Pearce tossed a one-hitter over five scoreless innings for her second shutout of the season. The Kenly, N.C., product faced one batter over the minimum.
