Men's Tennis Team Wins Fifth Straight

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team completed a perfect weekend with their second straight 6-1 victory on Sunday, this time over Fairfield's Stags at the UNCW Courts.

The Seahawks hiked their record to 5-2 this spring and stayed undefeated at home in five matches. Fairfield, which competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, is now 3-4 on the season.

UNCW notched the doubles point for the first time in three matches and only the third time this season for the early lead. The No. 3 team of Bekhzod Rasamatov and Dillon Gooch clinched the important point with a 6-4 decision over Fairfield's Charlie Morkel and Will O'Brien.

The Seahawks continued to roll in singles, sweeping the first three matches off the court en route to the easy win.

Freshman Trey Mallory increased the score to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1, victory over Fairfield's Keean Shah at No. 4 singles and senior Davide Innocenti, playing No. 1, raised the advantage to 3-0 by breezing past Morkel, 6-1, 6-4.

Freshman Harold Huens clinched the match for the first time in his collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-2, verdict over Fairfield's Sam Hodges at No. 3 singles.

The Seahawks hit the road on Friday, Feb. 25, for a 1 p.m. start vs. UNF in Jacksonville, Fla. Coach Mait Dubois and his club will remain in Jacksonville to play South Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 26.
