Men's Soccer Clinches CAA Tournament Berth

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta set UNCW's career shutout record with his 26th career clean sheet as the Seahawks earned a 2-0 victory at William & Mary in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

The Seahawks, 5-3-4 (4-1-2 CAA), clinched a spot in the 2022 CAA Championship with the Saturday night win. The Tribe, 4-3-6 (2-2-3 CAA), snapped a nine-game unbeaten streak.

UNCW scored a goal in each half on six shots, including three off the foot of senior midfielder Gabe Mercer. The Seahawks held an opponent scoreless for the seventh time this year behind Perrotta's six saves.

Senior forward Jalen Anderson, who made his seventh start, pierced the back of the net in the 36th minute when he connected on a cross from defender Josef Hefele to give UNCW a 1-0 advantage. It marks the fifth game-winning goal of Anderson's career.

UNCW added an insurance score in the 75th minute when Mercer's strike from the top of the box ricocheted high off the crossbar and fell through the hands of Tribe goalkeeper Danilo Nikcevic for an own goal.

The Seahawks stay on the road for a Tuesday afternoon contest at George Mason at 4 p.m.
