Newsome's Late Goal Lifts Seahawks Over Huskies

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Ethan Newsome's game-winning goal in the 86th minute was all UNCW needed for a 1-0 shutout victory at Northeastern in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action at Parsons Field on Saturday night.

The Seahawks 4-1-4 (3-0-2), extended their unbeaten streak to seven games and remain the only unbeaten team in conference play. The Huskies, 3-4-3 (2-2-1 CAA), fell at home for the first time this season.

Newsome recorded two of UNCW's four shots, with his second strike being his first career goal. The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native, who was assisted by Adam Hillis and Bachir Ndiaye, sliced through the Northeastern defense and curled a shot from just inside the box that found the upper-left corner to push the Seahawks ahead late.

UNCW totaled its sixth shutout in nine games by turning back 10 Huskie shots, two of which were on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta matched Seahawk alum and current New England Revolution keeper Brad Knighton's school record of 25 career solo shutouts with his fifth clean sheet this season.

The Seahawks return home next Saturday, Oct. 8, for a battle with defending CAA Champion Hofstra at UNCW Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
