BOSTON, Massachusetts – UNCW redshirt senior forward
Micah Hoggatt posted the first double-double of her college career, but it was not enough as the Seahawks dropped a 77-67 verdict to Northeastern in the Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball opener for both teams at the Cabot Center on Wednesday afternoon.

The Huskies, playing their first game in 17 days, upped their record to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in the CAA. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Hoggatt became the first UNCW player to register a double-double this season after sinking 7-of-12 shots from the field along with a 6-for-8 effort from the free throw line en route to a career-high 20 points. The Conyers, Ga., product also added 12 rebounds, which are the most by a Seahawk this season.

Graduate student guard
Sierra DaCosta added a season-high 18 points with six rebounds, while graduate student guard
Allie Best notched a season-high 11 points, including a 3-for-6 showing from beyond the arc.

Northeastern used a pair of career-high efforts to earn the victory. Senior guard
Kendall Currence erupted for a career-high 27 points, including 19 in the first half, while senior guard
Katie May matched the best performance of her career by chipping in 18 points.

Key Moment: Currence scored 14 of her 27 points in the opening quarter, leading the Huskies to a 20-17 advantage they did not relinquish. Northeastern led by as many as 11 points midway through the fourth quarter before UNCW trimmed the gap to 66-61, but was unable to get any closer. Â

- Northeastern owns a 20-11 advantage in the all-time series, including a 10-4 mark in Boston … The Huskies have also won the last eight meetings against UNCW at the Cabot Center.
- UNCW and Northeastern combined to shoot 30-for-36 from the free throw line … The Seahawks were 15-of-19, while the Huskies converted 15-of-17 chances.
- Led by Hoggatt, the Seahawks outscored Northeastern by a 34-26 margin in the paint.
- Hoggatt became the first UNCW player to record a double-double since Taylor Webster had 17 points and 13 rebounds against the College of Charleston on Mar. 9, 2021 … Hoggatt also becomes the 63rd player in UNCW program history to register a double-double.
- Hoggatt also became the first Seahawk to net 20 points in a game since Carol-Anne Obusek netted 23 points in a 75-65 win over Towson on Mar. 5, 2021. Â

- Best authored the 15th double-digit scoring effort of her college career … It is the first time Best has reached double figures since Mar. 12, 2021, against Fairfield when she played at Marist.
- DaCosta, who was held to a season-low four points in the win over UNCG on Dec. 22, posted her team-high ninth double-digit scoring performance of the year.
- Freshman guard Jayde Gamble tallied a season-high nine points, making 4-of-11 shots from the floor in a season-high 19 minutes.
