Volleyhawks Take Exhibition In Five From ODU

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW earned a five-set win over visiting Old Dominion on Saturday at Hanover Hall in the only exhibition match of the season for both programs.

The Seahawks opened quickly gained a 2-0 advantage winning the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-22, before ODU evened the match with a 25-19 win in the third and a thrilling 27-25 win in the fourth. There were 18 tied scores in the fourth set.

UNCW closed out the exhibition with a 15-13 win in the fifth set by hitting .438 with no hitting errors.

Kirsten Badowski and Brianna Haggerty led the Seahawks with 15 and 11 kills, respectively, as UNCW hit .235 on the match. Claire Sawyer doled out 29 assists.

The Seahawks forced the Monarchs to commit 30 hitting errors.

ODU's Myah Conway led all hitters with 17 kills and Hailey Duncan added 14. Teresa Atliano finished with 37 assists.

The Seahawks open their season hosting the UNCW Hampton Inn University Classic beginning on Friday. Furman and North Alabama open the tournament followed by the UNCW hosting Wake Forest at 6 p.m. The tournament will be hosted in Hanover Hall and continues with four matches on Saturday.
