UNCW Unable To Hold On In 15-14 Loss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte rallied with six runs in the bottom of the ninth to edge UNCW, 15-14, and win the weekend series on Saturday at Hayes Stadium.

The 49ers improved to 38-17 while the Seahawks fell to 30-20.

UNCW had season-highs in runs with 14 and hits with 18. Brooks Baldwin, Cole Weiss and Dillon Lifrieri had three hits apiece for the Seahawks, who scored 11 runs in the seventh inning to erase a 6-1 deficit.

Cole Benton (1-1) took the loss for the Seahawks while Gus Hughes (3-0) was credited with the win.

David McCabe led the 49er lineup with three hits, including a pair of home runs.

How it happened: Carson Johnson singled to score the tying run and the winning run crossed the plate after the ball was misplayed in the right center field gap.

Up next: The Seahawks will compete in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament next week at Brooks Field. The six-team field and seeding will be announced Saturday evening with the games beginning on May 26.
