CONWAY, South Carolina – No. 22 Coastal Carolina used two goals midway in the second half to end No. 9 UNCW's unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory over the Seahawks in non-conference men's soccer action at the Coastal Carolina Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening.
 
The win elevated the Chanticleers' record to 9-2-2 while the Seahawks dropped to 5-1-2 after seeing their seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Chanticleers took a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute when senior forward Claudio Repetto scored on a penalty kick past sophomore goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta.
 
Coastal Carolina extended the lead to 2-0 lead with 13:34 remaining with an unassisted goal by sophomore defender Kasper Skraep.
 
The Seahawks trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with 4:42 left in regulation as sophomore defender Jaden Strumeier converted passes from senior forward Jacob Evans and sophomore Parker Norris for the first goal of his college career.
 
However, the Chanticleers held UNCW without a shot for the final four minutes to secure the victory.
 
Perrotta made three saves in the loss for the Seahawks, while senior Tor Saunders authored six saves for Coastal Carolina, which extended its unbeaten streak to four straight games.
 
Game Notes:

• UNCW and Coastal Carolina has had 17 of their 22 all-time meetings decided by a goal or less.
• UNCW suffered its first loss since a 1-0 setback against James Madison in the 2019 CAA Championship Game.
• The loss also ended the Seahawks' 15-game regular season unbeaten streak … It is their first regular season defeat since a 2-0 verdict at No. 20 North Carolina on Oct. 1, 2019.
• Repetto's goal was the first marker conceded by the Seahawks since their Feb. 20 victory at Charlotte, ending a streak of 581 minutes, 17 seconds without allowing a goal.
• Strumeier became the ninth different UNCW player to score a goal this season.
