Elon Slips Past Seahawks in CAA Championship

TOWSON, Maryland – Senior midfielder Carson Jones' goal in the 82nd minute was the difference as Elon slipped past UNCW, 1-0, in the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Soccer Championship Game at Towson University's Tiger Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Phoenix, which won its first CAA crown since joining the league in 2014, improves to 6-3-0 on the season and secures the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The Seahawks see their season close with a 7-3-0 record after having a five-game win streak halted.

Jones gave Elon the one-goal lead with 8:39 remaining in regulation when she gathered a rebound of her own shot and slipped a shot past freshman goalkeeper Blair Barefoot for her third goal of the season.

Freshman McKenna Dalfonso turned away two shots in the win for the Phoenix, which outshot the Seahawks by an 11-10 margin.

Barefoot, the CAA's Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year, registered five saves in the loss for UNCW, which made its first appearance in the CAA title game since 2012.
