Seahawks Notch 10th Victory

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – With strong doubles play once again the linchpin, the UNCW men's team chalked up its 10th win of the season with a 6-1 demolition of visiting Gardner-Webb in non-conference men's tennis action Sunday at the UNCW courts.
 
The Seahawks extended their record to 10-4 on the season and won for the seventh time in eight tries at home. The Bulldogs fell to 8-11 after losing their regular season finale.
 
UNCW won the doubles point for the fourth consecutive match and the 10th time this season when the No. 3 tandem of Michael Copeland and Leonardo Sprovieri raced past GW's Sebastian Harris and John Spring, 6-3.
 
In singles, Copeland (No. 5) and Daniel Groom (No. 3) nailed down two quick victories, setting up the clincher by junior Davide Innocenti. The Florence, Italy, product cruised past GW's Chrisjan Van Wyk, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles to serve up the clincher for the second straight match and hand the Bulldogs their fourth loss in a row.
 
The Seahawks, 52-25 (.675) in singles and 25-10 (.714) in doubles this season, wrap up a four-match home stand on Friday when South Carolina State visits for a 2 p.m. match.
