Seahawks Defeat JMU in Regular Season Finale

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Redshirt junior Morgan Nanni and senior Audrey Harding each scored a goal and added an assist as UNCW completed its regular season with a 3-1 victory over James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who played their first match since Mar. 28, ran their winning streak to four matches while improving to 6-2-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the CAA. James Madison, meanwhile, dipped to 1-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the league.

James Madison took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when senior Ginger Deel sent a pass to the top of the penalty area where senior Ebony Wiseman fired a shot that beat freshman goalkeeper Blair Barefoot. It was Wiseman's first goal of the season.

But, the Seahawks answered by scoring three goals after the intermission to earn the victory. Nanni started the comeback in the 59th minute when she took a pass from Harding along the end line and scored from a sharp angle.

Just under seven minutes later, Harding gave UNCW a 2-1 advantage when she dribbled past several James Madison defenders and notched her fourth goal of the year on a low shot inside the far post.

With 9:02 remaining, freshman Hayley Magnussen completed the scoring when she took a Nanni pass and beat sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Hoffheins with a low shot into the far side of the goal.

Barefoot made two saves in the win for UNCW, which outshot James Madison by a 15-5 margin, including a 9-2 edge in the second half. Hoffheins posted one save in the loss for the Dukes.
