Seahawks Battle Duke to Scoreless Draw

DURHAM, North Carolina – Sophomore goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta made five saves as UNCW ran its unbeaten streak to three games with a scoreless draw against Duke in non-conference men's soccer action at Koskinen Stadium on Friday evening.

The Seahawks, ranked No. 18 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Division I Top 25 poll, saw their record move to 2-0-1 on the season while Duke stands at 2-7-2.

Perrotta earned his second shutout of the season with the five-save effort while freshman JT Harms and junior Eliot Hamill combined to tally five saves for the Blue Devils, who are winless in their last seven contests.

Duke outshot the Seahawks by a 16-13 margin, but UNCW held a 5-4 edge on corner kicks.

Game Notes:
  • UNCW is unbeaten in its last five encounters with Duke, posting a 4-0-1 record during that span … It was the first tie between the teams since Nov. 8, 1978, a 1-1 draw in Durham.
  • UNCW authored its first scoreless draw since Oct. 15, 2019, against Coastal Carolina.
  • The Seahawks matched their season high with 13 shot attempts, equaling the 13 shots against UNCG in the season opener on Feb. 6.
  • Perrotta moved into a tie with Mike Lyons (1980-82) for eighth place on Seahawks' career shutouts list with his 10th career clean sheet.
  • Perrotta, sophomore Jaden Strumeier and redshirt junior Drew Rabil played all 110 minutes while senior Michael Hornsby registered 102 minutes.
Up Next: The Seahawks return home on Wednesday, Mar. 3, to host Campbell at the UNCW Soccer Stadium in a non-conference contest at 6 p.m.
