Volleyhawks Edged By Tigers

UNCW dropped a pair of close matches on Saturday at Clemson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLEMSON, S.C. – Kirsten Badowski's 13 kills were a team-high for UNCW, but Clemson was able to finish off a sweep of the Seahawks with a 3-2 win in the second game of a series on Saturday at Jervey Gym. Clemson swept the Seahawks, 3-0, in the opener.

Clemson opened the second match winning the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-18, but the Seahawks forced a fifth set with wins (26-24 and 25-20) in the third and fourth sets. The Tigers were able to take the fifth set and the match, 20-18.

"After not playing for seven months, I thought our team played well," said first-year UNW Head Coach Dottie Hampton. "We were excited to compete against a good, athletic Clemson team. We kept the pressure on them with our serve and I think we showed our heart and competitiveness."

Badowski's season-high 13 kills led an impressive Seahawk offensive effort which featured four in double-digit kills. Brynn Montgomery, Katie Lanz and Brooke Hanshumaker all chipped in 10 kills apiece.

Lanz recorded her second career triple double with those 10 kills, 22 assists and team-leading 10 digs.

Madison Spencer paced the Seahawks at the net with five blocks and added five kills, both career-bests.

In the opener, Clemson edged the Seahawks by the scores of 26-24, 26-24 and 25-17.

Badowski was the lone Seahawk in double figures with 10 kills.

Jazzell Mangosing collected a career-high 11 digs for UNCW.

The Seahawks open Colonial Athletic Association play Feb. 26 at 5 p.m., when they host James Madison in the first of a two-match series that weekend.
