Lanz Fashions Double-Double In Five-Set Loss

Seahawks pushed Charleston to five sets, but came up short

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Katie Lanz posted her third double-double of the season as UNCW pushed Charleston to five sets before losing in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Saturday at TD Arena.

The Cougars ran their record to 15-11 overall with the win and 8-7 in the CAA. The Seahawks remained winless on the road this season and dropped to 4-22 and 3-12.

Lanz finished with a team-high 19 kills, tying a season-high, and recorded 19 digs, matching her career-high set during the 2019 season.

Defensively, UNCW received a career-best performance by Jadyn Barry, who finished with a career-high 29 digs.

Joining Lanz in double-digit kills was senior Sarah Blakely with a season-high 12 kills.

Led by Lexi Wierzbicki's 14 kills, Charleston finished with three in double-digit kills. Gabi Bailey and Claire Campbell chipped in 13 and 11 kills, respectively.

CofC fell behind, 2-1, as UNCW captured sets two and three. In the fourth set, the Cougars rallied from a 21-19 deficit to draw even at 22-all from a kill by Bailey. CofC finished off the set win with a 6-1 run.

In the fifth set, CofC built a 14-11 lead, but the Seahawks fought off match point three times to knot the score at 14-all following a Cougar hitting error. However, CofC scored the next two points to win the match, 16-14.

The series concludes on Sunday with a 2 p.m. start.
