Media Meet Seahawks During Annual Session

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Check another item off the preseason list for the UNCW men's basketball team after the youth-laden group addressed members of the local print and electronic media early Thursday at Trask Coliseum.

Kicking off his second season with the club, Head Coach Takayo Siddle and his players welcomed an opportunity to speak with news media about the program.

Media gathered at Trask Coliseum to interview players and coaches and witness the capturing of the official team photo by Bradley Pearce of UNCW's Office of University Relations.

A live show, featuring Siddle, graduate guard Mike Okauru and senior guard Jaylen Sims, was aired on the UNCW Athletics Facebook page. The free 30-minute show is archived on the page.

The Seahawks, featuring four returnees and 10 newcomers, play an exhibition against Francis Marion on Thursday, Nov. 4, before kicking off the regular season five days later in Normal, Ill., vs. Illinpis State. The Seahawks officially begin their home slate officially on Friday, Nov. 12, against Guilford in a 7 p.m. tip at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks went 7-10 in last season's Covid-marred campaign. In Siddle's inaugural year, the team captured the championship of the Mako Medical Asheville Classic in November and put together a three-game winning streak later that month.

Sims is the top returning scorer for the Seahawks at 17.8 points per game. Okauru collected 14.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists en route to Third-Team All-CAA honors. The new faces include four freshmen and five transfer student-athletes.

An inaugural matchup against Atlantic Coast Conference member Pitt and an appearance in Montana's Zootown Classic multi-team event highlight the schedule. UNCW will take on teams from 10 different conferences over the course of the new campaign.
