Seahawks Secure 1-1 Draw at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – Junior goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta made a career-high 14 saves, including nine in the second half, to lead UNCW to a 1-1 double overtime draw against Virginia in non-conference men's soccer action at Klöckner Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

UNCW, which extended its unbeaten streak to four games, stands at 7-3-1 on the season while Virginia moved to 3-6-2.

The Seahawks took an early lead in the seventh minute when graduate student midfielder Jacob Evans sent a through pass to junior midfielder Omar Aboutaleb, who scored his fourth goal of the season on a breakaway.

Virginia evened the score with just under 22 minutes remaining in regulation when sophomore midfielder Leo Afonso took a pass from sophomore midfielder Kaya Ignacio and slipped a shot under the crossbar from just outside the six-yard box.

Led by Perrotta, the Seahawks withstood Virginia's 27-shot attack in addition to the Cavaliers' 16 corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Holden Brown tallied three saves for the Cavaliers.

UNCW resumes Colonial Athletic Association play on Saturday, Oct. 9, when the Seahawks visit Elon for a 7 p.m. contest. Virginia welcomes Boston College on Friday, Oct. 8, for an 8 p.m. Atlantic Coast Conference fixture.
