Haggerty Posts Sixth Double-Double

Lanz passes career-milestone with seven kills

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Brianna Haggerty notched a double-double, her sixth of the season, for UNCW, but the Seahawks dropped a four-set decision on Sunday at Colonial Athletic Association volleyball rival Hofstra.

The Pride, which finished off a weekend sweep of the conference series, improved to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in the CAA. UNCW moved to 3-20 and 2-10.

Haggerty finished with a team-leading 10 kills and notched 10 digs to round out the effort.

UNCW freshman Grace Melnick posted career-highs with eight kills and a team-leading five blocks.

Katie Lanz, a junior, had seven kills and surpassed the 500-career kill mark on Sunday.

Ana Martinovic held match-high honors for Hofstra with 17 kills. She finished with just one hitting error and posted a .485 hitting average. Florencia Wolkowyski added 14 kills and was joined in double figures by Zyare Abdul-Rahim with 10.

The Seahawks closeout their home schedule next weekend when they host William & Mary on Nov. 6-7.
