WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior
Rylee Pate authored 13 strikeouts and allowed just one hit, but it was not enough as Presbyterian edged UNCW, 1-0, in the final game of the UNCW Softball Invitational at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.
The win elevated the Blue Hose's record to 16-7 on the season while the Seahawks dipped to 7-16.
Presbyterian scored the game's only run in the top of the fourth inning. After sophomore Hunter Meadows hit a double to center field with one out, she stole third base and scored on a throwing error by Pate two hitters later to give the Blue Hose a 1-0 lead.
The Seahawks were able to get a runner on base in each of their final four trips to the plate, but freshman pitcher Jenna Greene held UNCW scoreless to secure the victory.
Greene, who improved to 13-1 on the season, allowed just three hits while striking out seven batters with three walks in a complete game victory.
Pate, who posted her third game with 10 or more strikeouts this season, fell to 5-7 despite giving up just one unearned run on one hit with 13 strikeouts and no walks.
