Seahawks Fall to William & Mary, 63-55

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore guard Eva Hodgson scored a game-high 23 points and added six rebounds as William & Mary earned its fourth win in the last five games with a 63-55 Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball victory over UNCW at Trask Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Tribe, which secured a split of its regular season series against UNCW, improved to 16-6 overall and holds third place in the league standings with a 7-4 mark. The Seahawks stand 6-16 overall and 3-8 in the circuit after falling for the third straight game.  
 
Hodgson, who led a trio of William & Mary players in double figures, made 9-of-13 shots from the field while converting 4-of-7 free throws en route to her 11th 20-point game of the season.
 
Senior forward Victoria Reynolds contributed 16 points for William & Mary while redshirt sophomore guard Sydney Wagner came off the bench to score 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field, including a 3-for-6 showing from beyond the arc.
 
Senior guard Ahyiona Vason paced UNCW in the loss with 15 points and a career-high seven steals. The Montgomery, Ala., product was 5-for-12 from the floor and sank 5-of-6 free throws.
 
Senior guard Lacey Suggs added 13 points with five rebounds for the Seahawks.
 
Key Moment: With the score tied at 43-all in the fourth quarter, William & Mary scored 12 of the game's next 15 points, including six points from Hodgson, over a five-minute span to take a 55-46 lead with 2:33 remaining.
 
Game Notes:
  • The Seahawks and the Tribe have now split the regular season series in six of the last seven years … William & Mary now leads the all-time series by a 39-36 margin, including a 25-12 mark in Trask Coliseum.
  • Vason led the Seahawks in scoring for just the second time in her UNCW career.
  • Suggs authored her 12th double-digit scoring effort in the last 14 games after scoring 13 points on Sunday … The White Lake, N.C., product also increased her career scoring total to 952 points and needs just seven points to tie Christy Gambill (1996-2000) for 18th on the program's all-time list.
  • Redshirt senior guard GiGi Smith grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the Seahawks, equaling a season high.
  • Hodgson, the CAA's leading scorer, has netted 87 points in her last three games after her 23-point showing on Sunday … The Rindge, N.H., native produced back-to-back 30-point efforts against Charleston and Elon prior to Sunday's game against UNCW.
