Jada Santiago each registered two hits, but it was not enough as UNCW dropped a pair of games against Toledo and Marist during the second day of the Seahawk Softball Challenge at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who dipped to 4-13 on the season, suffered a 10-2 loss against Toledo in the opener before falling to Marist, 5-1, in the nightcap.
Willis posted both of her hits in the loss against Toledo after going 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Santiago, meanwhile, was 2-for-6 in the twinbill and drove in both UNCW runs in the loss to Toledo.
Sophomore
Janel Gamache blasted her team-leading fifth home run of the season with a solo shot to center field against Marist.
Key Moment vs. Toledo: Toledo erupted for five runs on five hits in the second inning, including a three-run home run by senior Samantha Golden, to take a 5-1 advantage the Rockets did not relinquish.
Key Moment vs. Marist: Marist broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning when freshman Hannah Brock hit a bases-loaded triple off the center field fence to give the Red Foxes a 4-1 lead. Brock added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when she scored on a single.
Up Next: The Seahawks finish play at the Seahawk Softball Challenge on Sunday, Mar. 1, when they host Robert Morris in the final game of the tournament at 12:30 p.m.
