WILMINGTON, North Carolina – There are times in sports where it's not about how you start, but more about how you finish.

UNCW and UNCG provided an example on Friday afternoon as the Seahawks overcame an 11-point deficit with a strong second half to earn a 60-55 women's basketball victory over the Spartans at Trask Coliseum.

The win allowed the Seahawks to improve to 3-1 on the season with their second victory in a row. UNCG dropped its fifth straight contest to begin the year.

Senior forward
Carol-Anne Obusek paced four UNCW players in double figures with a career-high 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. The Cary, N.C., product also grabbed 10 rebounds to register her second straight double-double.

Freshman guard
Mary McMillan chipped in 14 points with six assists and two rebounds while junior guard
Camille Downs tallied 12 points while contributing seven rebounds, six assists and five steals. Redshirt junior
Dazia Powell completed the quartet of double-digit scorers by notching a career-high 10 points and six rebounds.

Senior Pernilla Sorensen led UNCG in the loss with 15 points after knocking down 5-of-11 three-point field goal attempts. Redshirt senior Tori Powell and junior Chatori Tyler each added 11 points for the Spartans, who made their first visit to UNCW since the 2008-09 season.

Key Moment: Trailing by a 34-25 margin early in the third quarter, the Seahawks went on a 22-5 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 47-39 lead they did not relinquish. Obusek tallied nine of her points to lead the charge while McMillan added five points. UNCG narrowed the deficit to 56-54, but UNCW sank four of six free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.

- UNCW earned its third consecutive win in the series over UNCG … The Spartans still lead the series by a 10-7 margin … Five of the Seahawks' seven wins in the series have come at Trask Coliseum.
- The Seahawks outrebounded UNCG by a 41-33 margin, marking the third time in four games they have held the advantage on the glass … UNCW also had 11 offensive rebounds, which they turned into 12 second-chance points.
- UNCW's starters accounted for 59 of the team's 60 points in the victory over UNCG.
- The Seahawks committed a season-low 11 turnovers against the Spartans.
- UNCW had four players score in double figures for the first time this season.
- Obusek recorded her second straight double-double after not registering one in her previous 69 career games … In the last two games, she has converted 18-of-29 field goal attempts (.621) while grabbing 11.5 rebounds per contest.
- Downs set season highs in rebounds (7), assists (6) and steals (5) while recording her third straight double-digit scoring effort.
- Freshman guard Evan Miller grabbed a season-high seven rebounds while playing a season-high 31 minutes off the bench.
- UNCG, which entered Friday's game with just 17 made three-pointers in its first four games, connected on 11-of-30 shots from beyond the arc, marking the most made by a UNCW opponent since Charleston knocked down 11 triples on Feb. 23, 2018.
