NEWARK, Delaware – Redshirt senior defender
Danny Reynolds recorded the first two-goal game of his college career to lead UNCW to its third win in the last four games, a 3-2 Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer victory over Delaware at Grant Stadium on Saturday evening.
The win moved the Seahawks' record to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the league. Delaware lost its second straight match to drop its record to 1-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 against CAA foes.
Reynolds gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute when he headed in a free kick from senior midfielder
Gabriel Cabral for his first goal of the season.
Just over six minutes later, freshman midfielder
Colton Pleasants added his first career goal on a 25-yard shot off an assist from junior midfielder
Jacob Evans to increase the margin to 2-0.
The Blue Hens narrowed the deficit to 2-1 in the 64th minute when sophomore defender Timo Hummrich converted a penalty kick past freshman goalkeeper
Gabriel Perrotta.
But, Reynolds answered in the 77th minute by netting his second goal of the contest with a 25-yard free kick past sophomore goalkeeper Renan Thomazo.
Delaware trimmed the gap to 3-2 with 4:07 left in regulation on an own goal as a free kick was inadvertently headed into the goal by a UNCW defender. The Blue Hens had a pair of opportunities to score the game-tying goal in the closing minutes, but were unable to even the margin.
Perrotta tallied three saves in the victory for the Seahawks, who outshot Delaware by a 13-9 margin. Thomazo authored four saves for the Blue Hens.
