RICHMOND, Virginia – Newcomer
Emily Moxley wasted little time making an impact for the UNCW women's soccer team last weekend, lifting Coach
Chris Neal's squad to the championship of the Charleston Under Armour Invitational.
What was Moxley's reward? The Cary, N.C., forward was named as the Colonial Athletic Association's Offensive Player of the Week by league officials on Monday.
"I am so happy for Emily," said Neal, who begins his second season at the helm of the program. "Over the past few years, she has faced significant adversity and I'm very proud of her. She really showed her quality on opening weekend."
Moxley sparked the Seahawks to victories over Furman and Stephen F. Austin and earned All-Tournament Team distinction with scoring two goals with an assist in the two contests.
After scoring the eventual game-winning goal in the Seahawks' season-opening triumph over Furman, Moxley collected a goal and added an assist in the first start of her brief college career on Sunday in a 3-0 shutout victory over Stephen F. Austin.
Moxley and the Seahawks, off to a 2-0-0 start for the third time in four years, open their home schedule on Thursday, Aug. 29, with a 7 p.m. non-conference contest against Coastal Carolina.
