MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – Led by two goals from redshirt sophomore
Morgan Nanni, UNCW won its second straight game with a 3-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin at the Charleston Under Armour Invitational at Patriots Point on Sunday afternoon.
The win allowed the Seahawks to close out their opening weekend with a 2-0-0 record while the Ladyjacks dropped to 0-2-0.
Nanni gave the Seahawks a quick 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when she took a pass from freshman
Jordan Faveri and scored on a six-yard shot.
Freshman
Emily Moxley upped the UNCW advantage to 2-0 just over five minutes later when she converted a Faveri feed with her second goal of the season.
The Seahawks completed the scoring in the 55th minute as Nanni received a pass from Moxley from the top of the 18-yard box and netted her second goal of the contest.
Junior
Sydney Schneider and redshirt freshman
Anna Johnston combined to record the shutout for the Seahawks. Schneider tallied three saves in 82 minutes before Johnston made her UNCW debut by playing the final eight minutes.
The Seahawks outshot Stephen F. Austin by a 19-8 margin and held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Game Notes:
- Sunday's game marked the first-ever meeting between UNCW and Stephen F. Austin.
- Nanni recorded her second career two-goal effort in Sunday's victory. She also had two goals in a 3-0 victory over Cleveland State last year.
- The Seahawks have opened the season with back-to-back wins for the third time in the last four seasons.
- Faveri is the first UNCW player to record two assists in a game since Molly McGarry had two assists against Towson on Oct. 21, 2018.
- The Seahawks have outshot their opponents by a combined 29-11 margin in the first two games.
- Moxley and Faveri made the first start of their college careers in Sunday's win over Stephen F. Austin.
