Owls Clip Seahawks, 9-8

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State erased a three-run deficit in the sixth and seventh innings as the Owls picked up a 9-8 win over UNCW on Saturday at Stillwell Stadium.

The Owls evened their record at 16-16 with the non-conference win while the Seahawks fell to 16-15 overall and 3-5 in one-run games.

Four Seahawks finished with two hits, including Greg Jones, who's second homer of the season gave UNCW an 8-5 lead in the sixth inning.

A.J. Willoughby held game-high honors with three hits for KSU, which scored the last four runs of the game. David Chabut added two hits and Terence Norman had a grand slam in the third inning.

KSU reliever Nathan Dupree (2-0) earned the win with three innings of two-hit, shutout baseball.

Gage Herring (0-3) took the loss for the Seahawks.

Up next: The series concludes with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday as both teams look to clinch the series.

How it happened: After plating three runs in the sixth, all with two outs, the Owls' Tyler Simon drew a one-out walk and advanced into scoring position on a UNCW throwing error. Simon would score one batter later when Jaylen Smith doubled to right to plate the go-ahead run.

Notes: Kep Brown's hitting streak is now at 14 games after a first inning double … Cole Weiss had two hits for his team-leading 13th mulit-hit game of the season.
