Seahawks Can't Avoid Sweep At Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Rob Weissheier's three-run homer to left completed a two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth as Hofstra erased an 8-5 deficit to complete a sweep of UNCW on Sunday with a 9-8 win.

The Pride improved to 11-24 overall and 5-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association while the Seahawks saw their losing streak run to five and fell to 20-21 and 5-7.

HU reliever Seamus Brazile (1-0) earned the win while Ryan took the loss to fall to 3-3.
Vito Friscia, Weissheier and Ryan Morash finished with two hits apiece while Friscia drove in three runs and Weissheier four.

Greg Jones collected four hits on the game for UNCW as every starter had at least one hit. Cole Weiss and Noah Bridges each had two.

UNCW reliever Blake Morgan tossed 5.1 innings of one-hit, one walk baseball.

Up next: The Seahawks visit East Carolina on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. start and return to Brooks Field on Wednesday when they host Campbell at 6 p.m.

How it happened: Leading 8-5 entering the bottom of the ninth, Morgan surrendered a leadoff single to Jimmy Joyce. Ryan entered the game and erased the leadoff single with a ground ball double play. Morash began the rally with a single to left and Austin Pollack was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Friscia laced a RBI single through the leftside and one pitch later, Weissheier ended the game with a three-run shot to left.
