RALEIGH, North Carolina – No. 14 NC State used a 14-1 run over the final four minutes of the first half to break away from UNCW en route to an 80-40 victory over the Seahawks in non-conference women's basketball action at Reynolds Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolfpack upped their record to 2-0 on the young season while UNCW dropped to 0-2.
Redshirt senior guard GiGi Smith paced the Seahawks with a team-high 17 points on 6-for-18 shooting from the field, including a 4-of-12 effort from three-point range. Smith also pulled in five rebounds while playing a game-high 38 minutes.Â
Senior guard Ahyiona Vason chipped in 12 points for the Seahawks, shooting an efficient 6-for-8 from the floor. Junior forward Paige Powell contributed five points with a team-high seven rebounds.Â
Sophomore center Elissa Cunane led three NC State players in double figures with a game-high 18 points while adding nine rebounds.
Junior forward Kayla Jones tallied 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Wolfpack while freshman guard Jakia Brown-Turner scored 11 points.
Key Moment: Led by back-to-back three-pointers from Brown-Turner, NC State used a 10-0 run over a two-minute span in the opening quarter to build a 12-5 advantage the Wolfpack never relinquished.

- NC State improved to 6-0 all-time against the Seahawks … It was the first meeting between the two teams since 2016.
- The Seahawks have opened the season with back-to-back losses for the first time since beginning the 2013-14 campaign with setbacks against Notre Dame and Elon.Â
