Golden Goal Gives Seahawks 1-0 Win at JMU

HARRISONBURG, Virginia – Junior forward Jacob Evans scored the game's only goal in overtime as UNCW extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-0 victory over No. 18 James Madison in a meeting of the top two teams in the Colonial Athletic Association at Sentara Park on Saturday evening.

The win elevated the Seahawks to the top spot in the league table with a 5-0-1 mark while upping their overall record to 8-4-2. In addition, UNCW secured a berth in the six-team CAA Tournament field with the victory over the Dukes.

James Madison, meanwhile, dropped its second straight game and stands at 9-5-1 overall and 4-1-1 in league play.

The Seahawks earned the win when Evans netted his second goal of the season in the 94th minute. Freshman Jaden Strumeier chipped a pass over two James Madison defenders to Evans, who struck a six-yard shot from a sharp angle off the hands of goalkeeper T.J. Bush and under the crossbar, igniting a joyous celebration by the Seahawks.

Freshman goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta, the reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Week, tallied three saves en route to his fourth consecutive shutout. Bush made one save for the Dukes, who outshot UNCW by a 12-4 margin.
