WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman
Colton Pleasants scored the game's only goal in the 63rd minute as UNCW upped its winning streak to three games with a 1-0 victory over the College of Charleston in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action on Saturday night at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The win allowed the Seahawks to remain tied for first in the CAA standings with James Madison at 4-0-1 while elevating their overall record to 7-4-1. Charleston, meanwhile, dipped to 1-9-2 overall and 0-4-1 in league play after losing for the seventh time in the last eight games.
After a scoreless first half, the Seahawks took the one-goal lead with 27:28 remaining in regulation. Freshman
Jaden Strumeier sent a pass to redshirt senior
Danny Reynolds along the near side. Reynolds took a quick touch before sending a crossing pass into the penalty area, which Pleasants one-timed into the goal for his second goal of the season.
The Seahawks' defense protected the lead from that point, conceding just one shot over the final 27 minutes to complete the shutout.
Freshman goalkeeper
Gabriel Perrotta made one save in the victory to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Freshman Austin Shuping tallied three saves in a losing effort for the Cougars.
