MOUNT PLEASANT, North Carolina – Sophomore
Emil Elveroth's first half goal was enough for UNCW as the Seahawks edged West Virginia, 1-0, at the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic hosted by the College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon.
The win allowed the Seahawks to close the opening weekend with a 2-0-0 mark while the Mountaineers saw their record move to 1-1-0.
Elveroth gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when he converted a pass from junior
Wilhelm Nilsson for his first goal of the season.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper
Ryan Cretens tallied seven saves to record his second shutout in a row as the Seahawks were outshot, 18-13.
Sophomore Steven Tekesky recorded six saves for the Mountaineers in the loss.
