BLACKSBURG, Virginia – Virginia Tech used a pair of goals in the second half to earn a 2-1 non-conference victory over UNCW in women's soccer action at Thompson Field on Friday evening.
The win allowed the Hokies to improve their record to 1-0-2 while the Seahawks suffered their first loss of the season to drop their record to 2-1-0.
After a scoreless first half, the Hokies scored twice in an eight-minute span to take a 2-0 advantage. Freshman Karlie Johnson tallied the first goal off an assist from freshman Molly Feighan in the 71st minute before junior Bridget Patch added her first goal of the season with 11:59 remaining after converting a pass from freshman Emily Gray.

Audrey Harding trimmed the deficit to 2-1 when she struck for the first goal of her college career.
Senior goalkeeper
Caitie Broderick made a career-high nine saves for the Seahawks, who were outshot by an 18-4 margin.
Junior goalkeeper Molly McGlynn, the reigning ACC Defensive Player-of-the-Week, tallied two saves in the victory for Virginia Tech.
