UNCW Falls To #12 ECU, 6-4

UNCW was unable to overcome a four-run second inning by the Pirates


GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Connor Litton homered to highlight a four-run second inning as 12th-ranked East Carolina topped UNCW 6-4 on Tuesday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

The Pirates improved to 21-6 on the season while the Seahawks dropped to 19-9.

Litton finished with two hits and knocked in two runs. Drew Hendrickson added two hits and scored a run.

Alec Burleson (2-0) earned the win in relief for the Pirates and Ryan Ross nailed down his third save.

UNCW starter Breydan Gorham (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs in two innings.

Greg Jones collected a pair of single for the Seahawks while Mason Berne and Zack Canada both homered and drove in two runs.

Up next: The Seahawks host Wofford in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.

How it happened: The Pirates roughed up Gorham for four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-1 lead. Litton lead off the inning with his sixth homer of the season and Bryant Packard and Brady Lloyd added RBI singles.

Notes: UNCW reliever Blake Morgan allowed one run over four innings in his first Mar. 14 versus Ohio State … Freshman outfielder Brycen Braswell made his collegiate debut and went 2-3 … Berne and Jeffers pushed their consecutive games on base streaks to 22 games.
