UNCW Drops Series To Blue Hens

The Seahawks look to avert a sweep on Sunday

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware's Billy Sullivan struck out a career-high 16 as Delaware earned a series win with a 5-1 victory over UNCW on Saturday at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The Blue Hens upped their record to 17-14 with the win and improved to 5-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. UNCW, meanwhile, dropped to 20-14 and 4-4 in the league with its third straight loss.

Sullivan (4-1) tossed seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and walking just one. James Meeker recorded all three outs in the ninth for his fifth save of the season.

Landen Roupp (0-1) took the loss. The righthander allowed four hits in the first inning as UD scored twice, but settled down and did not allow a hit over his 4 2/3 innings and left trailing, 2-0.

Kevin Mohollen and Erik Bowren had two hits apiece for the Hens. Calvin Scott hit his fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh for a 4-0 lead.

Up next: the series concludes on Sunday with another 1 p.m. start at Bob Hannah Stadium.

How it happened: Delaware jumped on Roupp for two runs in the first inning as Mohollen doubled to lead off the inning and Bowren, Kyle Baker and Nick Patten followed with RBI singles.

Notes: Mason Berne, who singled in the ninth, extended his hitting streak to 15 games and has now reached base safely in 28 consecutive games … 16 strikeouts were a season-high for the Seahawks … The Seahawks have dropped six of their last seven games.
