WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman outfielder Yazmine Romero had two hits, scored a run and drove in another run to lead Youngstown State to a 4-1 victory over UNCW at the Seahawk Spring Showcase at Boseman Field on Sunday morning.
The win elevated the Penguins' record to 8-12 on the season while the Seahawks dropped to 7-13.
Romero authored back-to-back singles in the fourth and fifth innings to lead the Penguins. Sophomore pitcher Maddi Lusk drove in a pair of runs while going 1-for-2 at the plate.
Lusk also earned the win in the circle after throwing a complete game effort. She allowed one run on four hits while posting a pair of strikeouts.
Senior shortstop
Kelsey Bryan scored the Seahawks' lone run while going 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
Sophomore
Rylee Pate suffered the loss for UNCW after giving up four runs on four hits over 5.0 innings with four strikeouts.
How It Happened: The Penguins broke a 1-all tie in the fifth inning by scoring three runs on two hits off Pate.
