BROOKLINE, Massachusetts – Freshman Tyler Welch scored the game's only goal in the 67th minute as Northeastern edged No. 13 UNCW, 1-0, in the regular season finale for both teams at Parsons Field on Tuesday evening.
The win allowed the Huskies to earn a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship while upping their record to 6-8-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the CAA. UNCW, meanwhile, dipped to 12-4-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the CAA.
Welch's first career goal gave Northeastern the one-goal lead with 23:49 remaining in regulation when he scored on a 20-yard curling shot past redshirt senior goalkeeper

Freshman goalkeeper Chandler Cree made five saves in the win for Northeastern, which was outshot by a 16-7 margin. Cretens tallied two saves in the loss for UNCW.
Up Next: The Seahawks will be the No. 2 seed in the CAA Championship and will play a semifinal contest at James Madison's Sentara Park on Friday, Nov. 9. The opponent and game time will be announced following this weekend's quarterfinal games.
