MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – Senior goalkeeper
Caitie Broderick made five saves, but it was not enough as UNCW dropped a 1-0 verdict to the College of Charleston in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at Patriots Point on Thursday evening.
The Seahawks, who were playing their final road game of the regular season, dipped to 8-6-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the CAA. Charleston, meanwhile, improved to 10-6-1 overall with a 5-2-1 mark against league opponents.
Senior forward Laura Ortega scored the game's only goal for Charleston in the 28th minute when she took a pass from junior forward Alyssa Beck and slipped a 15-yard shot past Broderick into the right side of the goal.
Redshirt senior Genevieve Henderson and sophomore Meredith Bolton combined to make four saves en route to the shutout. Henderson recorded one save in the first half before being replaced by Bolton, who stopped three shots.
The Cougars outshot UNCW, 16-12, while the Seahawks had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Up Next: The Seahawks return home on Sunday, Oct. 21, for their penultimate game of the regular season against Towson at 2 p.m. UNCW will honor its senior class prior to kickoff.
