Diamond Hawks Fall To Pride, 6-3

HEMPSTEAD, New York – Despite six strong innings from starter Logan Beehler, UNCW dropped a 6-3 decision to Hofstra in the middle game of a Colonial Athletic Association series on Saturday at University Field.

The Pride ran its record to 10-26 on the season and 3-8 in the conference. The Seahawks, fell to 17-20 and 6-5.

Hofstra starter John Rooney (3-7) struck out 10 and allowed two runs on six hits and three walks over eight innings.

Rob Weissheier's two hits were tied with Teddy Cillis for game-high honors. Weissheier knocked in two runs with his first home run of the season while Vito Friscia connected on his fourth.

Brian Mims and Ryan Jeffers both homered for UNCW.

Beehler, who did not figure in the decision, allowed three hits, two runs, walked two and struck out three.

Reliever Austin Warren (2-3) took the loss after surrendering a run in the seventh inning.

Up next: The series concludes on Sunday with a noon start.

How it happened: Trailing 2-1, Hofstra landed its leadoff hitter on in the seventh. After a one-out double, HU's Brad Witkowski scored on a wild pitch by Warren and Chris Hardart plated the go-ahead run with a single to right.

Notes: All of Ryan Jeffers's homers this season have been in conference play … Robbie Thorburn tripled in the seventh and moved into a tie for third all-time at UNCW with 10.
