Baseball Unable To Avoid CAA Road Sweep At CofC

 
MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – A pair UNCW errors in the eighth inning erased a Seahawk lead as the College of Charleston completed a sweep with a 7-6 win on Sunday at Patriots Point.

The Cougars improved to 13-15 overall and 5-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Seahawks, who have now lost their five straight, dropped to 11-15 and 2-4.

Erven Roper had two hits and knocked in three runs while Dupree Hart added two hits and scored three times.

Charleston reliever Carter Love (2-1) earned the win, despite giving up a lead in the eighth inning.

Nick Feight and Terence Connelly each had two hits for the Seahawks. Connelly drove in two runs.

Clark Cota (0-1) took the loss for UNCW, allowing both runs in the eighth inning.

Up next: The Seahawks open a five-game week on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. start at home against Campbell.

How it happened: After taking a 6-5 lead, UNCW surrendered two runs in the bottom of the inning as CofC regained the lead. Cota walked the leadoff hitter and then the first of two UNCW errors in the inning moved two into scoring position. Roper singled to center to tie the game and UNCW's second error of the inning on a ground ball made it 7-6 Charleston.

Notes: UNCW's Nick Feight lined into a triple play, the first turned against UNCW since Delaware did so in 2006 … The Seahawks were swept in a three-game conference road series for the first time since 2011 at James Madison … UNCW led just once during the weekend.
