Hofstra Secures Series Sweep Over Seahawks, 4-0

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Hofstra scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to claim a 4-0 victory over UNCW in the Colonial Athletic Association series finale at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Pride, which swept the series against the Seahawks, improved to 18-17 overall and 7-4 in the CAA. UNCW saw its record dip to 28-10-1 overall and 8-4 in league play.

Freshman Kristin Hallam and senior Lacey Clark each collected two hits to lead the Pride's six-hit attack.
  Freshmen Sarah Cornell and Alyssa Irons combined to record the Pride's second shutout of the weekend. Cornell upped her record to 14-7 after yielding six hits over 6.1 innings with three walks and three strikeouts while Irons tallied her second save after retiring the final two batters.

Junior Kelsey Bryan led UNCW with a season-high three hits.

Key Moment: Hofstra broke a scoreless tie by scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Pride used a wild pitch by senior Peyton Jordan to take a 1-0 lead before Clark blasted her sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field.  

Inside the Box Score: Both teams left eight runners on base … Hofstra pitchers recorded 13 fly ball outs with just two ground ball outs … Hofstra was 9-for-13 in advancement opportunities while UNCW was just 3-for-13 in those situations … The teams were a combined 4-for-18 with two outs.  

#SeahawkStats: Jordan suffered her second straight loss and dropped to 13-4 on the season … Senior Lauren Moore has reached base safely in seven straight games … Sophomore Kali Jones had her streak of reaching base safely end at 12 games … Hofstra held the Seahawks to a .224 batting average in the series … Bryan and Moore led UNCW with four hits each in the series … UNCW is now 18-6 at Boseman Field this season with three home games remaining.  

Up Next: The Seahawks play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday evening with a 5 p.m. contest at NC State. UNCW returns to league play next weekend with a three-game series at James Madison.
