Seahawks Fall 10-1 To FGCU In Series Finale

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Cory Fehribach had three hits and drove in two runs to back a strong pitching effort from Josh Dye as Florida Gulf Coast University delivered head coach Dave Tollett his 500th career win and a sweep of UNCW with a 10-1 victory on Sunday at Brooks Field.

The Eagles won their sixth straight to improve to 10-2 while the Seahawks dropped their seventh consecutive outing and fell to 3-7.

Julio Gonzalez added two hits for the Eagles while Eli Lovell and Gage Morey both drove in two runs.

Dye (3-0) limited the Seahawks to a run on seven hits over 6.1 innings. He walked none and struck out four. Christian Townsend earned his first save of the season, tossing 2.2 innings of hitless baseball.

Logan Beehler (0-2) took the loss for UNCW. The righthander allowed four runs on four hits and four walks in 6.1 innings of work.

Nick Feight was the only Seahawk with two hits.

Up next: The Seahawks host NC State on Mar. 8 at 4 p.m.

How it happened: The Seahawks narrowed their deficit to 4-1 in the seventh following Casey Golden's third home run of the season. However, UNCW's bullpen surrendered three runs in the eight and three more in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Inside the box score: UNCW walked a season-high nine batters … The Seahawks managed just one hit with two out and were hitless with RISP.

Notes: This was the first time since 1998 that UNCW was swept in a three-game non-conference series at home … With four home losses, UNCW surpassed its total of three from last season … The Seahawks hit .198 for the weekend while the pitching staff surrendered 21 walks … Feight posted his fifth multi-hit game of the season.
