Seahawks Defeat Georgetown to Close Weekend

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Kali Jones posted three hits and scored a run as UNCW finished play at the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Showcase by defeating Georgetown, 4-1, at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who avenged a 5-1 loss against the Hoyas on Saturday, elevated their record to 17-6-1 on the season while Georgetown dropped to 7-17.

Jones, who recorded her third career three-hit game, spearheaded the Seahawks' eight-hit attack while senior Lauren Moore added two hits while driving in a run.
Senior Peyton Jordan allowed just one run on four hits en route to earning her eighth win of the season. She also tallied six strikeouts without issuing a walk.  
  How It Happened: The Seahawks broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning with an RBI double by sophomore Rachel Willis. UNCW added two more runs in the fourth frame on a solo home run by sophomore Anna Hessenthaler and an RBI bunt single by Moore.

Inside the Box Score: The Seahawks' lead-off hitter reached base in four of six innings … UNCW was 7-for-20 in advancement opportunities … Georgetown pitcher Anna Brooks Pacha induced 10 fly ball outs by the Seahawks … The teams were a combined 2-for-19 with runners in scoring position … Jordan only allowed two hits in the final six innings after allowing a run on two hits in the first inning.

#SeahawkStats: St. Bonaventure earned a 5-4 win over UMass Lowell earlier on Sunday before losing to Georgetown, 13-8 … The Seahawks have won seven of their last eight games while improving to 12-3 at home … Senior outfielder Merritt Wilkinson set the UNCW career record after being hit by a pitch twice, increasing her career total to 18 … Hessenthaler, who hit her first career home run in the win, became the eighth different UNCW player to hit a home run this season … The Seahawks are now 13-1 when allowing two runs or less … UNCW outhit its opponent for the 17th time in 24 games … Junior Kelsey Bryan extended her hitting streak to eight straight games with a leadoff single in the first inning … Jordan recorded her 37th career victory in the circle, moving within one win of second place on the Seahawks' all-time list.
