WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior
Nella Chamblee and sophomore
Rachel Willis each tallied two hits while combining to drive in five runs as UNCW swept a pair of games over St. Bonaventure and UMass Lowell to begin play at the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Showcase at Boseman Field on Friday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who upped their record to 15-5-1 on the season, defeated St. Bonaventure by a 10-1 margin in five innings before blanking UMass Lowell, 4-0, in the nightcap.
Chamblee went 2-for-3 and hit her second home run of the season with a three-run blast in the win over St. Bonaventure. Willis, meanwhile, drove in a pair of runs against the Bonnies with her second home run of the year and notched a hit in each contest.
Senior
Peyton Jordan improved to 7-2 in the circle after allowing just one unearned run in four innings against St. Bonaventure. She tallied five strikeouts while lowering her earned run average to 0.75.
Junior
Sarah Davis threw five shutout innings against UMass Lowell to earn her sixth win of the season. She scattered three hits and posted two strikeouts without allowing a walk. Sophomore
Haley Lenderman completed the shutout by throwing the final two frames.
How It Happened vs. St. Bonaventure: The Seahawks erupted for 10 runs in the first three innings, including back-to-back four-run frames to open the game. Willis hit her home run in the first inning with a two-run shot before Chamblee added her three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning.
How It Happened vs. UMass Lowell: UNCW broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning before adding two more runs in the fifth inning. Meanwhile, the Seahawks did not allow a hit against the River Hawks in four of the seven innings.
Coach Kristy Norton Says: "Our ladies went out and were excited for everyone that stood next to them. They played for each other and I think it really showed in the outcomes."
Inside the Box Scores: UNCW hit .341 in the doubleheader with 14 runs on 15 hits … The Seahawks were 10-for-14 in advancement opportunities against St. Bonaventure and 5-for-13 with runners on base … St. Bonaventure left six runners on base and was 1-for-13 with runners on base … UNCW was 6-for-11 in advancement opportunities in the win over UMass Lowell while the River Hawks were just 2-for-12 in those situations … The River Hawks were also 1-for-12 with runners on base.
