Here are some postgame notes from yesterday's 57-41 loss against Coastal Carolina in the Seahawks' road opener.Â
JUST THE FACTS:Â Playing in the first road game of the Karen Barefoot Era, UNCW had its brief two-game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 57-41 setback at Coastal Carolina.
DOUBLE DIGIT DEGRAAF:Â Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf posted her third consecutive double-digit scoring effort after netting 16 points in Saturday's loss against Coastal Carolina. The Springboro, Ohio, native is now averaging a team-high 16.0 points per game through three outings.
OH SO CLOSE:Â Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf nearly recorded the fourth double-double of her college career Saturday after finishing with nine rebounds to go with her 16 points. It would have been the first double-double this season by a UNCW player.
POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT:Â After making just 3-of-12 field goal attempts in the season opener against UNC Pembroke, redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf has converted 10-of-19 field goals in her last two games following Saturday's 6-for-12 effort at Coastal Carolina. DeGraaf is also 8-for-11 from three-point range in the last two outings.
WELCOME BACK:Â Senior guard Diamond Willis made her season debut in Saturday's loss against Coastal Carolina. Willis, a native of Shreveport, La., posted two rebounds with an assist in seven minutes.
WAIT A MINUTE:Â Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf and sophomore guard Lacey Suggs each matched their career high for minutes played. DeGraaf played all 40 minutes for the second straight game while Suggs recorded 28 minutes, matching her career high set in the season opener.
HELPING HANDS:Â The Seahawks recorded nine assists on their 13 field goals against Coastal Carolina on Saturday, including five assists by sophomore guard Moriah Crisp. Through three games, UNCW has fashioned 31 assists on 53 made field goals.
AW, SHOOT:Â UNCW took a season-high 63 field goal attempts against Coastal Carolina on Saturday, marking the most field goal tries since attempting 63 shots against James Madison on Feb. 17, 2017.
LOW POINT:Â Both UNCW and Coastal Carolina struggled offensively on Saturday with both teams setting a season low for field goal percentage. The Seahawks were limited to just 20.6 percent shooting from the field while the Chanticleers hit just 33.3 percent of their attempts.
ODDS AND ENDS: The Seahawks wore their navy uniforms for the first time this season … UNCW won the opening tip-off for the third consecutive game … Redshirt senior forward Jenny DeGraaf scored the Seahawks' first points with a jumper at the 4:54 mark of the first quarter … Sophomore guard Lacey Suggs was the Seahawks' first substitution … Freshman guard Grace Sacco posted a season-high two assists.
