WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore defender
Baley Edwards scored the game's only goal in the fourth minute to lead UNCW to a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over College of Charleston at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening.
The win allows the Seahawks to remain in contention for a berth in the CAA Championship field while upping their record to 6-10-2 overall and 2-5-1 in league play. Charleston, meanwhile, drops to 8-7-1 on the season with a 3-4-1 league mark.
Edwards, who scored her second goal of the season, gave UNCW a 1-0 lead just 3:24 into the first half when she knocked in a rebound of a shot from senior forward
Serenity Waters.
Led by freshman goalkeeper
Sydney Schneider, the Seahawks held Charleston scoreless en route to the team's fourth shutout of the season. Schneider tallied a season-high eight saves in the victory.
Senior Genevieve Henderson made four saves in the loss for Charleston, which enters the regular season finale in fifth place in the CAA standings.
