Edwards' Goal Enough for Seahawks in Win Over Charleston

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore defender Baley Edwards scored the game's only goal in the fourth minute to lead UNCW to a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over College of Charleston at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening.

The win allows the Seahawks to remain in contention for a berth in the CAA Championship field while upping their record to 6-10-2 overall and 2-5-1 in league play. Charleston, meanwhile, drops to 8-7-1 on the season with a 3-4-1 league mark.

Edwards, who scored her second goal of the season, gave UNCW a 1-0 lead just 3:24 into the first half when she knocked in a rebound of a shot from senior forward Serenity Waters.

Led by freshman goalkeeper Sydney Schneider, the Seahawks held Charleston scoreless en route to the team's fourth shutout of the season. Schneider tallied a season-high eight saves in the victory.

Senior Genevieve Henderson made four saves in the loss for Charleston, which enters the regular season finale in fifth place in the CAA standings.

Up Next: The Seahawks close out the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 22, with a CAA contest against Northeastern at 1 p.m. UNCW's three seniors – Savannah Andrews, Serenity Waters and Meg Salvadore – will be recognized prior to the game.
