Northeastern Edges Seahawks for 2-1 CAA Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior forward Kayla Cappuzzo scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute as Northeastern held off UNCW to earn a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Friday evening.

The Huskies, who earned their fourth win in the last five matches, upped their record to 7-5-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the CAA. Meanwhile, UNCW dropped to 6-3-2 on the season, including a 0-1-1 mark in league play.

Sophomore forward Hannah Rosenblatt gave Northeastern a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when she scored her fifth goal of the season on a 17-yard shot to the near post.
UNCW tied the game in the closing seconds of the first half when senior midfielder Moa Jarl took a quick shot off a corner kick by junior forward Brittany Cline and scored her second goal of the season.

But, the Huskies answered less than seven minutes into the second half when Cappuzzo collected a loose ball and scored on a 13-yard shot for a 2-1 advantage Northeastern never relinquished.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nathalie Nidetch made all seven of her saves in the second half as UNCW outshot Northeastern by a commanding 14-4 margin, including an 11-1 count after the intermission.

Senior goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy made one save in 79 minutes before being replaced by senior Liisa Rahkola, who did not record a save.
