WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Led by two goals from freshman forward
Nikki Cox, UNCW extended its unbeaten streak to four straight games with a 4-1 victory over UMBC at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who defeated UMBC for the second year in a row, improved to 3-0-1 on the season while the Retrievers' record dropped to 2-2-0.

UNCW jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 19 minutes of the game. After Cox scored off a feed from freshman midfielder
Baley Edwards in the 14th minute, senior forward
Serenity Waters took advantage of a turnover by the Retrievers to score her third goal of the year for a 2-0 advantage.

The Retrievers trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with 25:47 remaining in the second half when junior midfielder
Angela Kuhn headed in a corner kick by freshman
Nikki Saad for her first goal of the season.

However, the Seahawks answered with 10:04 left when senior
Madison Melnick scored her first goal of the season by converting a pass from Waters. Cox added an insurance goal with 1:44 left when she collected a loose ball and scored on a shot from a sharp angle.

Carolyn Huddy recorded two saves in the win for UNCW, which outshot the Retrievers by an 18-5 margin.
